A Calcified Non-parasitic Cyst of the Liver

Abstract
|
|
|
A case of calcified non-parasitic cyst of left lobe of the liver is reporded in view of its rarity and obscure origin.
This patient was 37 year old female who had been complained of indigestion for 2 years, and epigastric pain for 6 months.
On physical examonation, hard mass, about 8 cm in diameter was palpated on epigastrium. The simple abdominal plain X-ray and upper G-I series showed rounded calcified cystic lesion, 6¡¿6¡¿6 cm at the intermediate area of the liver scanning was noted a 4¡¿5 cm ill-defined cold area at the dome area of lobe of the liver which corresponds exactly to site of calcified lesion demonstrated on the abdominal X-ray.
The left hepatic lobectomy was performed.
The excised specimen showed hard calcified cyst. measuring 8.0¡¿5.0¡¿3.5 cm in left lobe. Microscopically, the epithelium of cyst wall was destroyed with calcific changes.
Literatures regarding with non-parasitic cyst of the liver were reviewed.
